Chicago tips, please? Anyone?

We will be visiting Chicago this week for Daughter to lease an apartment so that, in four weeks, we can drive back to Chicago with her and all of most of some of her earthly possessions to formally launch her into REAL LIFE. (Guess where the stuff she doesn’t take with her will be going? RIGHT! Storage. How’d you guess?)

Anyway, we visited Chicago for two days in April and despite spending the greater part of those two days driving in circles and loops, and the real Loop, and lots of rectangles and squares and even one triangle, we managed to find our way around, sort of, and fell in love with the city.

This coming week we again have two days. Part of the plan is to visit the church in Irving Park where my Great Grandfather built the altar rail, pulpit and lectern back around the turn of the century. He also worked as a carpenter for the 1893 World’s Fair the year after he emigrated from Sweden. Quite a guy.

We will likely have a little free time. I’d love your suggestions for eateries and cool neighborhoods to visit, etc…We did a lot of the touristy stuff in April, but not all by any means, so if there are any MUST-do touristy things, let me know. Thanks!

I wish I could help with Chicago tips, but as often as I’ve been there, it’s only to visit friends and we only seem to hang out together rather than see the city. Have fun though!

Alices last blog post..Do or do not, there is no try.

Have a great trip. I’m from the Chicago area, but never got to know the city much except for the school field trips to the various museums. Science and Industry was my favorite, with Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle as my favorite attraction at the museum.

    Neat about your Great Grandfather.

    Enjoy your trip.

    Donas last blog post..Thanks Mike!
